Richard and Margaret Blake 25th June 2020

A Tribute from Richard and Margaret Blake We came to know Will around the time that his beloved Eileen passed away – a severe blow that demanded all his courage and searched out his reserves of faith in Christ. He rapidly became a valued member of our home group and a dear friend. There were so many facets to Will! No celebratory occasion would be complete without a goodly helping of his wonderful bread rolls and superb sausage rolls, and his humour added sparkle to many gatherings. He was a gifted photographer and would send fine examples of his art, for he knew Richard would always appreciate his maritime scenes. He had a well-trained ear as well as eye with his love of classical music and his wide ranging knowledge. Always so generous, he gave us a video of ‘La Boheme’ (amongst others) and a stream of well selected updates on historical articles or programmes that he thought would please us. All this spoke of his thoughtfulness and kindness as well as his own breadth of interests. Back home he maintained a superbly tended garden for as long as he was able. For many years also he kept up his loyal support for former ICI employees. Even more importantly he was a loving – maybe doting! – grandfather and father with a deep concern for all that was going on in their lives. A man so loving, thoughtful and kind will have had a consistent godly influence on them all, and surely the memory of his goodness will remain to encourage in tough times and to inspire far into the future. We know he had quite a battle with health issues over the years but he faced them with steady courage that flowed out from his uncomplicated trust in God. Will was a steadfast follower of the Lord Jesus Christ – and surely he is now receiving the Lord’s commendation for loyal faithfulness, and that would be the highest of all accolades!
